Before March 2004, the VibroGym was formally referred to as Powerplate. Research before this time mentioning Powerplate has been actually performed on the VibroGym platform. The product now marketed as Powerplate is a different product and no longer features the high quality Dutch engineering and construction of the VibroGym.

Strength Study

The VibroGym increases leg strength in young women

‘WBV and the reflexive muscle contraction it provokes, has the potential to induce strength gain in knee extensors of previously untrained females to the same extent as resistance training at moderate intensity. It was clearly shown that strength increases after WBV training are not attributable to a placebo effect.’

Rehab Study

VibroGym (previously known as Powerplate) stimulates recovery after anterior cruciate ligament (ACL) rupture. Research shows using the VibroGym expedites recovery of muscle performance after ACL rupture. Combination with conventional physiotherapy, exercises on the VibroGym lead to improved muscular power, enhanced proprioceptive abilities and stabilization of the art. genus. As a result, this special kind of therapy can be used for stabilizing joints and preventing additional trauma. VibroGym therapy is significant for anyone wanting to recover as quickly as possible from this kind of surgery in order to get back to normal daily activities such as work and sports.

Massage Study

Delayed Onset Muscle Soreness (DOMS) Study. The VibroGym can help reduce Delayed Onset Muscle Soreness (DOMS) and speed the recovery of muscle power after intense exercise.

'The findings within this study suggest that vibratory massage may also be a useful rehabilitation intervention for those individuals who suffer from delayed onset muscle soreness. This would have implications upon employment of masseurs and open a debate to determine their necessity. In turn this may make the role of masseurs redundant and reduce on-going rehabilitation costs.'

Balance Study

The VibroGym can help improve strength, balance and flexibility in geriatrics in 6 weeks. The feasibility of whole body vibration in institutionalised elderly persons and its influence on muscle performance, balance and mobility: a randomised controlled trial show great benefits for the participants.

'We can conclude that 6 weeks static WBV exercises are feasible in elderly with limited functional dependency, and might be beneficial for balance and mobility.'

Fibromyalgia Study

Patients who completed the program showed more improvements than those who did not. In a post-program survey, ten of the twelve patients who completed the program showed interest in continue in such a program, even if it means paying for the machine usage. The most noticeable improvements made by the completed group were: included decreased pain in the last 48 hours (particularly after the training sessions), decreased number of workdays missed in the last seven days, increased days felt good decreased anxiousness and depression.

New VibroGym Research Female Basketball Players

Effects of vibration training on force production in female basketball players. Whole-body vibration training can be considered an effective and safe training method for improving muscle strength in legs in female basketball players. We agree that WBV could be used as an excellent preparatory or warm-up activity before more intense exercise. Several studies have revealed that WBV is more effective in weak subjects than in strong subjects. Therefore, it could be a suitable training method to increase the strength of young basketball players.

New VibroGym Research on Blood Flow

The effect of whole body vibration on lower extremity skin blood ?ow in normal subjects. Circulation plays a vital role in tissue healing. Increases in muscle flexibility and strength, secretion of hormones important in the regeneration and repair process, blood flow, and strength of bone tissues has been attributed to whole body vibration (WBV) combined with exercise. The purpose of the study was to determine the effects of short-duration, high-intensity, isometric weight bearing exercise (vibration exercise [VE]) and vibration only on skin blood flow (SBF). The study findings suggest that short duration vibration alone can significantly increase skin blood flow for a minimum of 10 minutes following intervention. Vibration appears to be an alternative intervention in individuals with reduced SBF in the lower limbs especially in populations, such as those with insensitive feet, It appears that the emerging therapeutic modality of WBV significantly increases SBF.

New VibroGym Research for MS Sufferers

New VibroGym Research Vibration therapy in multiple sclerosis: a pilot study exploring its effects on tone, muscle force, sensation and functional performance. The exercise programme had positive effects on muscle force and well-being: there was a reduction in muscle spasms and did not appear to have a detrimental effect on symptoms of multiple sclerosis and, as such, may be considered as part of a therapeutic programme for people with multiple sclerosis.

New MS Study

New VibroGym Research Vibration therapy in multiple sclerosis 2010: Effects of whole body vibration on strength and functional mobility in multiple sclerosis. Regular WBV training on the VibroGym can improve lower limb strength and mobility in some individuals with multiple sclerosis. Regular WBV training may be particularly beneficial for those who are in a moderate stage of MS and do not perform any other exercise.

Decrease Pain in Runners

VT reduces muscle soreness and IL6. It may stimulate lymphocyte and neutrophil responses and may be a useful modality in treating muscle inflammation.

"We conclude that during recovery from an eccentric run, VT substantially reduces DOMS, promotes an immune response suggestive of increased leukocyte recruitment and infiltration of inflamed muscle, and increases the clearance or reduces production of IL6. Further investigation of biochemical and immunological mechanisms underlying our findings is warranted. VT may be a useful modality in reducing muscle inflammation and DOMS associated with sports injuries."

New Study show benefits for people with Chronic Fatigue

The results of the current study suggest that a six week physical training improves heart rate variability and respiration rate in patients with complaints of prolonged fatigue. Furthermore, patients reported a significant and clinically relevant decrease in fatigue complaints after the training programme. The results suggest that a six-week training programme has a beneficial effect on physiological and subjective parameters in patients with severe complaints of fatigue.

New Fibromyalgia Study

Six Weeks of Whole-Body Vibration Exercise Improves Pain and Fatigue in Women with Fibromyalgia Our results clearly suggest the positive effects of the traditional exercise program plus supplementary WBV intervention on pain and fatigue, whereas the effect of exercise alone is not apparent in any of the variables. The high adherence rate may be suggestive of patient’s satisfaction with the intervention. Results suggest that a 6-week traditional exercise program with supplementary WBV safely reduces pain and fatigue, whereas exercise alone fails to induce improvements.

New Circulation Study on VibroGym

The effect of 30 Hz vs. 50 Hz passive vibration and duration of vibration on skin blood flow in the arm Five minutes of 30 Hz or 50 Hz vibration massage produced significant increases in SBF. Clinically, 50 Hz has additional benefits because SBF increased more rapidly and did not result in vasoconstriction during the recovery period. Future studies should be done to determine if these increases in SBF could be of benefit to populations with low circulation such as those with diabetes.
